Last year’s porker out feeding on a warm day. Notice the “pacing” tracks and toes pointed inwards. Snow not right conditions to show tail drag.
Beech Eaters
Visited the giant fallen beech that used to babysit my raccoon orphans back in ’13. Cool stuff happening here.
Chickadee Burrow
Probably started by a sapsucker, but now a heat conserver for a chickadee and perhaps its nest site come spring.
Back Atcha
Looking North from Estabrook’s. Pleasant Mountain in clouds to West of Saddlebacks. Looking South from Pleasant Mountain. Estabrook’s, Back Mt and all between Saddlebacks to the East and Bill Merrills to the West.
Eastern Reds
Found the smattering of Eastern Red Cedars in the rocky rubble on the south side of Pleasant Mountain in Denmark, Maine. The books say this grove is the furthest North anyone has reported them so far. Please let me know if you find any further North. Thanks!
Monitor Lizzard?
Nope. A turkey using its wings to help get up a steep embankment!
Locust and Mastodons
Did you know this locust tree still has thorns to protect its foliage from browsing mastodons? They only grow as high as they can reach.
Junco Track
Junco fattening up on hemlock seeds in preparation for the big storm. See the wing marks?
Deer Beds
Twelve deer bedded down upriver of the confluence of the Ossipee and Saco Rivers.
