From what I hear, hemlocks are the only tree in our area that you can tell how long ago an injury has happened by counting rings on the edge of the gauge. Cool.
Back Again
Put the tents back up on the mountain after a three month hiatus. Was forcing myself to remain focused on my writing this winter…it worked. I have 16 chapters now! The winter I left the tents up, I spent six weeks up there and didn’t write shit ; )
Beech Tattoo
I have no idea what caused this. Do you? There were several in the same area, but not lined up.
Perfect Tracking Conditions
That yummy type of fine silty mud that lifts off like pudding skin! Check out the minute details like the pressure points and scar on one of the toes. Any guesses?
Stump Fence
There are still remnants of the old stump fence built by Johnny’s ancestors before they built the stone walls! The tannic acid in the roots, and high, dry conditions along the esker have preserved sections of this fence for over 250 years!
